Profile Information

I understand that this is a sharing and open community, and that the required fields for the below profile questions do indeed require at least a sentence or two of relevant information.
Yes
About Me:
I’m a Mom, homeschooling teacher, seamstress (including machine embroidery), blogger, web page designer, web site administrator, writer, Senior SGM/CE for Simutronics Corp., graphic design and desktop publisher. I read Tarot cards, create biorhythm charts and prepare name/day of birth analyses for clients, friends and family both online and off.

I am also a wife, grandma, Christian, Conservative Libertarian, former USAF brat, proud Zionist and patriotic American. I make no apologies for being Christian, American, Conservative or female. I am (oft-times loudly) opinionated, not always PC; blonde but not stupid.

My heritage is Scottish, Irish, Welsh on my Mom’s side and Cherokee, English, German on my Dad’s side. I am the eldest of four children. I have four living children and one deceased child. I also have four grandchildren. Note: my family — including parents, siblings, children and grandchildren — pretty much all walk on water and even if they don’t, I stipulate that they *could* if they chose to!

I am homeschooling my youngest daughter (Missy, 14) who is also a competitive Irish Dancer, which makes me a teacher and a Feis Mom. As such, I am also a hairdresser, makeup artist, costume designer/creator, fashion consultant, wardrobe coordinator, travel coordinator, chauffeur, travel companion, pep squad, critic, confidante and psychologist.

When I am not sewing or working, I am an avid reader (especially non-fiction) and I enjoy math and logic puzzles. I spend way more time online (working, blogging, researching something or just having fun) than I do watching television. Music is an absolute must in my life.

I am also an animal lover (and a carnivore, so take a hike PETA), and share my home with four dogs, three seven a dozen (or so) hamsters, one gerbil and two rabbits.

As far as religion goes

I believe in God and His Son Jesus Christ. I was baptized Presbyterian, but I do not consider myself to be any more Presbyterian than I do Methodist (for instance). I believe that denominations are labels created by man in order to exclude other men. The only label I choose in religious matters: Christian. Jesus didn’t have a label, I don’t need one either.

"There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men."

I believe in an afterlife (Heaven). I believe in communication between this world and the next. I also believe in the power of the human mind. I believe that all such power is given to us by God, as promised in the Bible (see 1 Corinthians 12), and I believe it is our responsibility to use our gifts and develop them to glorify God.
Personal Website:
http://www.mystic-tarot.net
Offerings (Healing, Art, etc.):
Some small measure of knowledge. Card readings or biocharting?
Goals (Personal, Planetary, etc.):
Knowledge, Wisdom, Peace, Enlightenment
Important Teachers:
It's all but impossible to list the number of people who have given me knowledge that has made a significant impact on who I am today and the paths I am following. Two of the most important would be my Mom and my Maternal Grandma. I find that almost *everyone* you come to know has something to teach you, if you're willing to draw them out and then listen to what they tell you, or follow their example, etc.
Favorite Books:
My profile banner would be about thirty screens long if I even tried to answer this! I am a voracious reader ... I prefer non-fiction because real life is often far more amazing than even the most imaginative fiction. The local librarian calls me a "reference room junkie" and I can pretty much tell you the approximate call numbers on just about anything you're looking for. In fiction reading, I tend to prefer good dialogue over imagery.
Favorite Music:
Country -- Gary Allan, George Strait, Alan Jackson, Darryl Worley, Trace Adkins, Randy Travis, Toby Keith, Joe Nichols, Josh Turner, Kenny Chesney, Blake Shelton ... and that's just SOME of them.

Irish and Scottish traditional -- Alex Beaton, Irish Rovers, Clancy's, Dubliners, Gaelic Storm, Wolfe Tones, The Corrs, Chieftans.

My musical tastes are wide and probably more eclectic than anyone you'll ever meet. A typical play list will have a preponderance of the foregoing along with reasonable numbers of rock, oldies, dance music, R&B, reggae, pop, hip hop, and even a little rap. VERY little.

My Ning Badges (aka Where else you'll find me lurking!)

My main blog: The Original Musings which is part of our main domain: naebunny-dot-net. Photos of my seamstress work can be seen here: My Dressmaking Gallery. My other "work" site: Mystic-Tarot. My Facebook page. My Twitter page. My own Ning SIte: God's Gifts. A little used social network page: My Multiply Page. You will also sometimes find my current event/news commentary on Blogger News Network, where I am a contributing writer.

I have several Ning memberships as well. Those include:

We [don't] like Ike!

The Hurricane, that is

On Sunday, September 14, at 2:00 p.m. hurricane Ike whipped through the Ohio Valley and left some 2.5 million people without power.

One hundred seventy hours and seven minutes later (that is, Sunday, September 21 at 4:07 p.m.) our power finally was restored. As I write these words, there are still a hundred thousand or so people around the state without power, and some of them may be that way for most of the upcoming week.

Because we run our own servers, all of o… Continue

Little Reminders

Eleven cents at a time

When I was little, Mom taught me the old rhyme “find a penny, pick it up, all day long you’ll have good luck. Find a penny, let it lie, all good luck will pass you by.” Well, from that point onward, I couldn’t ignore a penny on the ground!

When Sam died (July 10, 1999) we started finding pennies. It started the day he died.

About a month or so after, my sister sent me a story about how pennies are dropped from Heaven to say hello and I’m thinking about you. Now o… Continue

I am blessed

I am

Every time I decide that humanity has just about struck rock bottom and deserves a good hard kick in the head, something good happens and I am reminded that overall, we're not doing too badly at our jobs. Yes, we're surrounded by strife -- war, hunger, homelessness, poverty, crime, hatred, sickness -- but look at the blessings!

Sometimes it takes weeks (months ... years ... a lifetime ...) to find it, but for everything bad that happens there really is a counter-balancing go… Continue

Ever wonder what motivates unkind behavior?

What is it that motivates some people to be deliberately hateful or unkind to others? Why are some people so full of negativity and nastiness that they have to be mean and rotten to everyone they encounter? What do they gain by this?

Perhaps I'm warped, but I try to treat people the way I want them to treat me. I can't see wasting the energy to hate someone based on superficial nonsense like race or appearance or whatever. It always puzzles me when I encounter someone who feels compelled to "ha… Continue
